This is really a story about beanie babies.
When our friend V was about fourteen years old, her parents bought a new house about five minutes away from the house she’d grown up in. It took a few months for the old house to sell and her parents left behind a bunch of stuff in the old place to make it look “homey” and more attractive to potential buyers. V’s older sister used this opportunity to have BOY/GIRL HANGOUTS TIMES in the old house and let V tag along.
V was showing a dude friend of her sister her old room, which still had a lot of the little kid stuff she hadn’t felt like moving to the new place left in it. Including beanie babies. She told the dude that some of them were actually worth decent money and pointed out the most valuable.
When everyone was leaving, V’s sister had trouble with the key to the front door. The dude who had been hanging out with V suggested that they just leave without locking it, because no one was ever gonna know, and they’d be back soon enough anyway.
The every next day, the house was robbed. Some TVs and other electronics were taken. Also stolen? A bunch of beanie babies.
PS - The dude is actually in jail right now. For murder. Not a joke. Yiiiikes.
